“Tales of Sanctuary” on Culture Night 16 September 2016

The Dublin City of Sanctuary put on a show “Tales of Sanctuary” in the Unitarian Church as part of its Culture Night programme.

The performance was a good get together of several members of the Sanctuary in Politics Course, giving them an opportunity to present different poems, songs, stories. It started with the poem “Home” by Warsan Shire and ended with a Song  Nyumbani  (Home) sung by Kiru.  And indeed the theme of home was all pervading, the sorrows  and threats of the home left behind and the challenges of trying to find a new home. The Chinese poem by Du Fu “Lament of an old Man” described the experience of fleeing war and destruction and going into exile 1200 years ago.

After the event we joined the protest of the Refugee and Migrant Solidarity group at the Department of Justice and delivered a number of signed postcards calling on the Government to fulfil its promise to welcome 4000 refugees into Ireland.

I am German living in Ireland for 40 years and I am an ex teacher in my early 70s.
As I had a privileged life I would like to give something back to society by supporting people with difficult lifes.I would like to actively support families and children and young adults and hope to do that through your organisation.

    Sincerely,
